“In counties having a population of less than 60,000 inhabitants, the County Clerk shall be the Recorder in his county” (Illinois Compiled Statutes, 55 ILCS 5/3-5001). The Recorder’s Office is established by Illinois State statute as the legal repository for all land records in Putnam County. In essence, we are a government library for all documents concerning the ownership of property in Putnam County. When a document is recorded, our office assigns it a unique Document Recording Number, and then enters the document information into a county-wide database. Copies of the actual document are stored on micro-film and the original document is returned to the owner. Our office stores copies of recorded documents dating back to Putnam County’s inception in 1831.

The Putnam County Clerk & Recorder’s Office is located on the main floor of the “old” courthouse, in historic Hennepin, Illinois, at 120 N. 4th Street. Regular office hours are 9:00 A.M. until 4 P.M., Monday through Friday (The County Clerk & Recorder is also available to the public before and/or after normal business hours by appointment and also on weekends by appointment)

NO LEGAL ADVICE, OPINIONS, LEGAL DESCRIPTIONS WILL BE GIVEN BY THE RECORDERS STAFF IN PERSON OR BY PHONE.
